Canterbury is the renowned old English settlement to the east of London. One of the largest cities in Kent, this archaic market town is abundant with memories of centuries passed.

One of the first British settlements, the town became nationally recognised after the murder of Saint Thomas Beckett in the 12th century. This event marked the earliest tragic assassination of a great man in the millennium and provoked the visit of thousands, to pay homage to his shrine.

Geoffrey Chaucer resided in the city in the 15th century, comprising his most famous works, the Canterbury Tales, on the events surrounding the death of Thomas Beckett. Canterbury is yet again unique in sporting terms, with the local cricket
ground particularly familiar with cricketers worldwide. This is due to the eccentric location of a Lime tree in the outfield. The tree fell victim of high winds in 2005, however a replacement has been planted in memory of the fallen icon.
